Using zebrafish model is promising for identifying the toxicity (e.g. hepatotoxicity, cardiotoxicity, and neurotoxicity) of compounds. Currently, morphology-based methods which analyse the change in size/colour/shape of liver are the most common approaches to detect hepatotoxicity in zebrafish larvae. We applied these methods to detect hepatotoxicity induced by three hepatotoxic compounds (i.e. aspirin, cyclosporin A, and sodium valproate) in the transgenic zebrafish larvae (Tg(fabp10a:DsRed)). In addition, we used the method based on the quantification of hepatocytes to enhance the reliability of the hepatotoxicity test.
